14 visionaries honoured at the 14th NCPEDP-Mphasis Universal Design Awards 2023

New Delhi: Fourteen exceptional innovators have been honoured with the prestigious 14th NCPEDP-Mphasis Universal Design Awards. The Awards are given to innovators who work to break barriers for the disabled and create an inclusive society for the past 13 years. These awards acknowledge efforts of individuals and organisations dedicated to fostering accessibility and inclusivity in India through their innovative designs and inclusive projects. Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, Union Minister for Civil Aviation & Steel, emphasizes the vital role of differently-abled family members in India's growth during his video address. Rajesh Aggarwal, Secretary, Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPwD), Government of India graced the event with his presence and lauded the endeavour of NCPEDP and Mphasis for towards creating a more inclusive India. The awards are conferred in three categories: persons with disabilities, working professionals, and companies/organizations that have made an impact in accessibility and Universal Design in areas such as built environment, transport infrastructure, service provision, ICT, consumer products, mobility aids, assistive technology, and more.

NHRC, NCPEDP & IRDAI open house consultation

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) in collaboration with the disability rights group and the Insurance Regulatory Development Authority of India (IRDAI) on August 25 brought together all insurance companies to deliberate and spell out a vision for the future of insurance for disabled people. Arman Ali, Executive Director, NCPEDP; Mandakini Balodhi (Director) Insurance, Ministry of Finance; Rajeev Sharma, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment; and Dr. Vipin Kumar Singh, Director-National Health Authority echoed and acknowledged the needs of disabled people.

It is only some forms of plastic – most notably single-use plastic – that we should worry about.
